Tsum Valley Home Stay Trek
Overview

The Tsum Valley, also known as the holy hidden valley of happiness, is a sacred Himalayan pilgrimage valley, probably the most beautiful of the valleys lying under the majestic Ganesh and Sringi Himal northeast of Kathmandu situated in northern Gorkha, Nepal. It is one of the hidden gems of Nepal. This serene Himalayan valley is rich in ancient art, culture and religion. The local people are mostly of Tibetan origin and speak unique dialect. Tsum Valley has a population of about 4000 people of the indigenous ethnic group known as “Tsumbas”. The Tsum Valley has long history of Buddhism. Trails are strewn with artistic chortens and lined with mani walls made of thousands of stone slabs carved with drawings of deities and inscribed with prayers. The Tibetan Buddhist culture is still very prevalent in Tsum and the scenery is just stunning, with beautiful forests and countryside, with Ganesh Himal towering above the valley.

Tsum is magical and mysterous. The region was once so remote that almost nothing was known about it. This wild, rugged and exotic valley is located north of Ganesh Himal and just east of Manaslu. The landscapes and mountain vistas can only be described as superlatives, as befits another real Shangri- La of the himalayas.

Tsum Valley was a restricted area until it was opened for trekking in 2008. The valley is uniquely rich in wildlife, especially the Himalayan Thar and Blue Sheep which congregates in herds of 50 to 200. The valley also boasts some unique and historic monasteries, including Rachen Gumba and Mu Gumba, which lie on a pretty plateau nestled in the lap of the valley, and Gumba Lungdang, situated at the base of a conical hill against the main slope of Ganesh Himal.
