Medical Matters

There are no statutory vaccinations for entry into Nepal. However, we advise vaccination against typhoid, tetanus, hepatitis and meningococcal meningitis. An injection against cholera is officially no longer considered necessary unless an outbreak has been reported in the area in which you may be travelling; check with your doctor or Travellers Medical Centre for current information. If you are visiting the Terai, we suggest that you begin a course of malaria tablets before your departure, which should continue for the duration of your trip and for some weeks on return. It is your responsibility to bring sufficient quantities of any prescribed medications you require. Consult your doctor before departure, so that he/she knows the conditions under which you will be taking the medication. Advise us of any side effects of any medication you take and of any dietary requirements related to taking them, and be sure to let your Group Leader know of any drugs to which you are allergic. On most trips you will be isolated from modern medical facilities, so attention to medical matters is vital. We suggest that each trekker bring sunburn cream, lip-eze, band-aid strips, insect repellent, energy drink powder or bars, moleskin, antiseptic solution, iodine, antacid tablets, anti-diarrhoeal tablets, cold and flu suppressant, throat lozenges, decongestants, aspirin, deep heat muscle rub, crepe bandages and knee and ankle supports. Kathmandu has world class dentists, but modern dentistry is largely unknown in the mountains, so have a check-up before departure. Fillings sometimes loosen in cold weather and high altitude, so have them checked.

  • Your staff on the trek were excellent, helpful & extremely friendly! I will never forget this experience! Thanks to all & see you again.
