Mountain Biking From Manali to Leh
Overview

Explore Himalayas by your favorite mountain bike from Manali to Leh via Khoksar , Tandi , Darcha , Sarchu , Pang and finally reaching the destination at Leh. A adventurous journey where you set your on pace. A deeply satisfying trip where you achieve many goats and pass cycle over some of the highest passes (Tanglang La at 5500 mt) in the world. Interacting with locals , negotiating steep climb and sharp turns of Himalayan road makes this journey more memorable.

Outline Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive Delhi : Arrive Delhi. Met on arrival at Delhi international airport and transfer to hotel for overnight stay.

Day 2: Delhi - Chandigarh : In the morning drive (240 km) to Chandigarh - capital of two adjoining States - Haryana and Punjab. Popularly known as"The City beautiful" Chandigarh is a modern and well planned city, laid down by the world renowned French architect, Le Corbusier. Arrive at Chandigarh and check into the Hotel. Afternoon visit the amazingly created Rock Garden - a beautiful garden created out of waste materials. Overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 3: Chandigarh - Kullu - Manali : In the morning drive (310 km) to Manali - a favourite spot for Indian honeymooners and holiday makers. On arrival check into the Hotel for overnight stay.

Day 4: Manali : Morning free to explore the city as well as to set your Bikes ready for the spectacular Trans-Himalayan mountain Bike covering a total distance of 484 kms. The high altitude road beyond the Great Himalaya range, on the edge of the Tibetan plateau, connects the densely fertile Lahaul Valley to the stark barren region of Ladakh, once accessible only from Kashmir. As you traverse, contrast in the topography becomes apparent. Lahaul and later Ladakh reveal barren landscapes that assume fantastic and bizzare shapes, surrealistic colours splash off rocks ranging in hue from various shades of brown to rust, gold, pink and yellow. Here one is traversing the roof of the world where Buddhist influence on the inhabitants tries to soften the rough existence they must lead to survive. Manali is set amidst lovely forests of towering cedars, circled by snowy peaks and the unending roar of the Beas river. Manali offers unparalleled opportunities for trekking, rock climbing, angling and winter sports. Dinner and overnight stay at the hotel.

Day 5: Manali - Koksar : Morning after breakfast start first leg of cycling (57 km) to reach Khoksar via Rothang pass (3980 mt), the first of the high passes linking Kulu Valley and Lahaul-Spiti Valley. Arrive Khoksar (3140 mt) - a bleak and wind swept place. Set-up camp for overnight stay.

Day 6: Khoksar - Tandi : Morning after breakfast start cycling to reach Tandi (49 km) along Chandra river. Arrive Tandi and overnight stay in Tents.

Day 7: Tandi - Darcha : Morning after breakfast start cycling to reach Darcha (43 km). Enroute stop at Gondhala to see the ancient Gondhala Fort. Pass by Keylong (3348 mt) - an oasis of green fields and Jispa (3142 mt). Stop at Jispa to visit a newly built monastery, which was specially built for H.H. the Dalai Lama. Arrive Darcha by evening and set-up camp for overnight stay.

Day 8: Darcha - Intermediary Camp I : Morning after breakfast start cycling (35 km) to reach the Intermediary Camp. En route pass through Patseo (3811 mt) which has a very beautiful and big green pasture land. After Patseo the road passes through few high altitude lakes and there are many camping sites near these lakes. Arrive the Intermediary Camp and set-up camp for overnight stay.

Day 9: Intermediary Camp I - Sarchu : Morning after breakfast start cycling (41 km) to reach Sarchu. Sarchu is the border between Himachal and Jammu & Kashmir States. After a level stretch acros large meadows such as Zingzingbar a gradual ascent up the Bhaga river leads to Baralacha Pass (4892 M). The word Baralacha means " a pass with cross roads". From here the snow covered peaks of the Barashigri, Chandrabhaga and Mulkila ranges are visible. Here the roads from Zanskar, Ladakh, Spiti and Lahaul meet together. Arrive Sarchu (4253 M) for dinner and overnight stay in Tents.

Day 10: Sarchu - Intermediary Camp II : Morning after breakfast start cycling (48 km) to reach Intermediary Camp II, passing through the expansive Kyangshuthang Plains, named after the Kyang (wild ass) the donkey-like animal that can be seen here. Arrive the Intermediary Camp II near Lachung La for overnight stay in Tents.

Day 11: Intermediary Camp II - Pang : In the morning start cycling (35 km) to reach Pang, enroute stop for a while at Lachulung La top (5065 mt). The third pass en route is reached after crossing the Tsarap Chu river. Arrive Pang and set-up camp for overnight stay.

Day 12: Pang - Tagnlang La : After breakfast start cycling (63 km) to reach Tanglang La Pass (5328 mt), the 2nd highest motorable road. From pass cycle down to large More plains. In distant you can see flock of sheeps of the nomadic Changpas who in summmers come down to More plains for greener pasture. Set-up camp along a samll stream at the base of pass for overnight stay.

Day 13: Tanglang La - Upshi : Start cycling (54 km) to reach Upshi. The approach to Leh via a narrow valley along a stream. Pass villages of Rumtse, Gya, Meeru en route. Upshi is the first small commercial town of Leh with a small market. Arrive Upshi for dinner and overnight stay in Tents.

Day 14: Upshi - Leh : Morning after breakfast start cycling (60 km) to reach Leh - the Capital of Ladakh region. From Upsi the road follows the Indus. Enroute visit Hemis Gompa - the biggest and the richest Monastery of Ladakh, Thiksay Gompa - a beautiful Monastery perched atop a hill and the ancient palace of Shey. Arrive Leh by evening and check into Hotel for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 15: Leh : Morning proceed for sightseeing tour of Phiyang, Spituk and Stok Palace. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay in hotel.

Day 16: Leh - Delhi : Board morning flight to Delhi. Met on arrival and transfer to hotel. Rest of the day at leisure. Overnight stay in hotel.

Day 17: Depart Delhi : Optional sightseeing of Delhi. Transfer to international airport in time to board the flight to onward destination.
