Hemis Altitude NP Wildlife
Overview

Spread over rambling 600 square kilometers on the eastern Ladakh cold desert, Hemis High Altitude National Park came into existence in the year 1981 on the exotic grounds of Rumbak and Markha valleys. Green grass covers the rocky terrain in winter once the snow melts in summer and ornaments alpine dry pastures that dominate the vegetation at Hemis High Altitude National Park Ladakh in Kashmir India. Soothing scrublands and grassy patches with snow-capped mountains in the backdrop create spectacular sceneries at the Hemis High Altitude National Park in Ladakh, Kashmir India.

Trek through fir, juniper and birch forests on a Hemis High Altitude National Park tour with our wildlife tours and tour packages. See wild animals like the exotic snow leopard, serow, ibex, Tibetan antelope, Tibetan kiang, Shapu, Bharal and other rare Himalayan wild species.

The nearest railway station is situated at Jammu-Tawi and the closest airport to the Hemis High Altitude National Park lies in Leh. Hemis High Altitude National Park is well connected by road to Leh that in turn is very well connected to different parts of Jammu and Kashmir, India.

Hemis High Altitude National Park is set on the banks of River Indus and is spread on the catchment areas of Sumdah, Rumbak and Markha streams. The main reason behind creating the Hemis High Altitude National Park was to demarcate an area for the conservation of the Snow leopard and the fast disappearing Himalayan wildlife from the area.
