Kathmandu Paro Valley
After a delicious Nepali Welcome Dinner and time exploring Kathmandu, you will be on board Druk Air, Bhutan only national airline, and land at Paro Airport (the only airport in the kingdom). The journey offers you magnificent and breathtaking views of the Eastern Himalayas, including the towering Mt Everest. The 7th-century Kyichu Lhakhang was one of the 108 temples built in the Himalayas by the Tibetan King, Srongtsen Gampo. It is revered as one of the most holy shrines in Bhutan and embodies the arrival of Buddhism here. Visit the Handicrafts Emporium, where Bhutanese textiles and other arts are displayed.
Thimphu & Simkota Lake
After exploring the famous Hindu temples and Buddhist shrines of Kathmandu, we take a dramatic flight along the Himalayas, past Everest, Makalu and Kanchenjunga to Paro in Bhutan. From near Drukgyal Dzong in the Paro valley, on a clear day there is a splendid view of Chomolhari. The Druk Path is one of the most popular treks in Bhutan. This short six-day trek leads from Paro to Thimphu or vice versa, crossing the chain of mountains that separates the two valleys. Although the route is sparsely inhabited, there are wonderful lakes teeming with fish, spectacular rhododendron forests and, on clear days, great views of the Himalayas.
The trek starts with a short climb up to Jele Dzong, with great views of Jichu Drake (6989m), the peak representing the protective deity of Paro. From the high passes we enjoy majestic views of Gangkar Puensum, the highest peak in Bhutan.
We also visit Punakha Dzong, built in the 17th century by Shabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, and
the Wangdue valley, before returning to Nepal.
