A challenging ascent with breathtaking views! A high level of fitness is essential.
Baruntse (7129m) lies in the lap of Everest and Makalu. The mountain was first climbed by Colin Todd & Geoff Harrow on 30 May 1954 via the South-East Ridge. Following in their footsteps, many have since used this successful route. The popularity of this mountain is growing and it is now considered as challenging as Pumori, Ama Dablam or Everest.
The South-East ridge of Baruntse is certainly challenging, with some risk of avalanche. It includes some hard sections of 50 degree gradient, with a prominent ice cliff to be climbed. Most climbers consider spring the better time to ascend the mountain, but there have been a few ascents in the autumn season.
The expedition begins with a Kathmandu - Lukla flight followed by approximately 11 days trekking to Baruntse Base Camp, located near Panch Pokhari at 5200m. The summit offers staggering views across some of the Everest region most inspiring peaks.
